North Dakota faces hot, humid conditions with severe weather risks heading into the Fourth of July weekend. Thursday brings upper 80s to low 90s with heat index values reaching 100 degrees in some southern areas, along with gusty south winds up to 30 mph.

Severe thunderstorms are possible late Thursday night, with northeast North Dakota under a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk for damaging winds and hail. Friday is designated a First Alert Weather Day for Independence Day, featuring morning lows in the upper 60s to mid 70s, afternoon highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s, and dangerous heat index values near or over 100 degrees.

Heavy rainfall and severe storms remain possible Friday afternoon and evening, with over an inch of rain possible in the heaviest downpours. The weekend brings relief with cooler, less humid conditions Saturday and Sunday, featuring highs in the 70s to low 80s and mostly dry weather after morning showers clear out.
