Jamestown broke ground on a $1.6 million inclusive playground project at Nickeus Park, designed to serve individuals of all ages and abilities. The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and Parks and Recreation District celebrated the ceremony marking the start of construction on the all-abilities playground, new shelter, and accessible restrooms.
The upgraded park will feature accessible parking, a four-stall restroom, fabric picnic shelter, and poured-in-place rubber play surface. The centerpiece will be a fully inclusive playground with equipment supporting physical, social, and emotional development for everyone regardless of ability, according to the press release.
Jamestown Parks and Recreation received a $600,000 matching grant for the project and is currently fundraising for the remaining costs, sitting just over $100,000 short of their goal.
