The USDA’s latest Crop Progress report shows a slight improvement in U.S. corn conditions, with 74% rated good to excellent, up one point from last week and six points higher than last year. Corn silking is at 18%, behind last year but ahead of the five-year average.
Soybean conditions sit at 66% good to excellent for a fourth week in a row, slightly below last year. Winter wheat harvest is 53% complete, trailing both last year and the five-year average, while spring wheat conditions dropped to 50% good to excellent, a sharp decline from 75% last year.
Weather will continue to be a mixed bag. The Northern Plains may get some relief with increased rain chances, though the Pacific Northwest will stay dry and hot despite getting critical rain over the holiday weekend.
