’23/’24 Crop Losses Now Taking Applications for Aid

By Ryan King Jul 10, 2025 | 7:45 AM

Farmers who experienced crop losses due to natural disasters in 2023 and 2024 can now apply for part of $16 billion in aid through the USDA’s Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (SDRP).

The first stage of the program begins today July 10, 2025, and is open to producers who already received payments through crop insurance or the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP).

Eligible losses must be tied to disasters like drought, flooding, hurricanes, wildfires, freezes, and other extreme weather events from those two years. Farmers in Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, and Massachusetts will receive separate assistance through state block grants.

Stage-one payments will cover up to 90% of losses but will be reduced by a 35% payment factor to manage demand, meaning a $100,000 eligible loss would result in a $35,000 payout. Payments will also be reduced by any insurance or NAP payouts already received.
