An 18-year-old Grand Forks man was arrested Tuesday evening after fleeing from police responding to a domestic disturbance call.

Edward Lassonde was charged with simple assault-domestic violence following a 6:45 p.m. incident. When officers arrived at a residence near the 1300 block of Eighth Avenue North to arrest him, Lassonde ran on foot, prompting a significant police response in the area, according to a media report from the GFPD.

Police established a perimeter and eventually contacted Lassonde by phone, convincing him to surrender. He was found hiding in a garage and taken into custody without incident. Along with the domestic violence charge, Lassonde faces additional counts of criminal trespass and refusal to halt.

He was transported to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center. Police say there’s no ongoing threat to the public, and the investigation continues.
