Valley City officials reported at a City Commission meeting Tuesday that more than 1,700 homes and businesses lost power during the devastating June 20th storm that brought tornadoes and straight-line winds exceeding 100 mph.
The city has hauled over 2 million pounds of tree debris to the landfill, where crews are burning it under a state permit. The next citywide tree debris cleanup is scheduled for July 24th.
The June 20th-21st storms damaged or destroyed numerous homes, businesses, and vehicles while uprooting countless trees throughout the area, including several on the Valley City State University campus.
Electrical Supervisor Marshall Senf reminded residents to report any trees threatening power lines to the city. A 24/7 collection center remains open west of the Transfer Station for residents who can load their own tree debris onto trucks.
