By Ryan King Jul 18, 2025 | 7:52 AM

Ag Officials in the Upper Midwest part of the United States, are sending out a stern and serious warning to Ag Producers in the area, warning them of the ongoing threat of the New World Screwworm.

A Minnesota State Veterinarian stated many farmers and ranchers falsely believe that the northern climate and temperatures is enough to deter a tropical pest threat like NWS, but it is not the case.

The New World Screwworm, can impact livestock herds anywhere in the US, and feeds on the living flesh of warm blooded animals, causing irritation, head shaking, and visible maggots and odor coming from the wound.

Officials warned to keep watch on all NWS updates, and take keeping your herd safe serious as the New world screwworm has made appearances near Texas where the USDA and country of Mexico are fighting to keep the threat contained.
