By Payton Gall Jul 21, 2025 | 7:35 AM

North Dakota saw significant severe weather Sunday, with multiple rounds of thunderstorms producing golf ball-sized hail near Belfield and record rainfall in Bismarck. The capital city received 2.56 inches of rain, smashing the old daily record of 1.42 inches set in 1948, according to Joshua Adam from the National Weather Service. Megan Jones of the NWS reports that Flash flooding occurred in downtown Bismarck, with water reported above curbs on Main Street.

More severe weather is possible today across much of the state, with hail up to two inches, damaging winds up to seventy miles per hour, and an isolated tornado threat. Multiple rounds of storms could develop from this morning through tonight, so stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
