Stutsman County Emergency Management officials Pam Blinsky and Jessica Moser want residents to know the difference between test and real emergency sirens.
Monthly siren tests happen the first Wednesday of the month at noon in Jamestown, Buchanan, and Cleveland. Medina’s sirens occur at 10:55 a.m., LaMoure County’s at 11 a.m., and the Streeter area at around 11:55 a.m. Siren tests run just 15 seconds. Real emergencies sound for three full minutes.
Officials urge residents to sign up for Everbridge alerts on the Stutsman County website for automatic weather warnings and emergency notifications sent to your phone, email, or text. These alerts were used during the June 20th storm to notify residents about water usage restrictions.
In the case of a weather emergency, the National Weather Service and other officials contact Jamestown emergency dispatchers, who then mobilize law enforcement.
Emergency managers are reviewing procedures from recent severe weather to improve response. They also recommend following National Weather Service Facebook pages for Bismarck and Grand Forks for weather updates.
Sign up for alerts at the county website or contact the emergency management office for preparedness materials.
