A Lisbon couple traveling in Alaska to attend a wedding suffered serious injuries when their Honda Civic was struck head-on by a southbound driver who crossed the center line on Alaska’s Parks Highway on Friday, July 25.
Katelyn and Ty Michels were hospitalized thousands of miles apart following the 1 p.m. crash near Mile 81. The other driver, 19-year-old Connal M. Dinsmore of Wasilla, was killed at the scene.
Ty remains in Anchorage awaiting ankle and jaw surgery, while Katelyn is in Seattle’s ICU after multiple operations to repair abdominal damage. Doctors expect her recovery to take months.
The couple has two young sons, Jaylen and Hudson. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover significant medical expenses and allow the family to focus on recovery.
