North Dakota launches emergency alert systems August 1st to address high rates of missing and murdered Indigenous people.

The “Feather” alert targets Indigenous cases, while the “Missing Endangered Person” alert covers all adults. Both function like Amber Alerts, notifying the public when someone is believed abducted and in danger.

Representative Jayme Davis sponsored the legislation.

The Justice Department estimates Native people go missing and are murdered at rates more than ten times higher than other populations. North Dakota joins a handful of states using such systems.
