Plans for a new wind farm in central North Dakota are moving forward.

Minnesota Power announced Monday they plan to build a 200-megawatt wind farm, with 45 turbines planned for construction in Morton and Mercer Counties.  The company has named it the Longspur Wind Project.

The power would be mostly delivered to more-populous Minnesota, but the company said in a statement that some of the power would go to North Dakota.

The project still needs approval from regulators in both states.   If approved, construction could begin next year and be operational by 2027.

The announcement by Minnesota Power comes after an open-bid process in 2024 that they said was monitored by an independent evaluator.
