By Seth Dunlap Aug 6, 2025 | 9:40 AM

Today’s threat for most of North Dakota aren’t storms, but heat.  The National Weather Service says heat the heat index could approach, or exceed, 100 throughout much of southern North Dakota.   That includes expected heat indexes of 97 in Lisbon, Linton, and Washburn, and 98 in Bismarck.   Areas along I-94 west of Bismarck, or north of that stretch, will see heat indexes in the low-to-mid 90s.

The National Weather Service has also upgraded the threat assessment for Friday’s storms to Level 3 for eastern North Dakota and Western Minnesota.  A Level 2 threat warning for central North Dakota and Eastern Minnesota has also been posted.  These storms could bring heavy rains and flash flooding, and possible areas of rapid intensification.  The NWS says travel is not advised throughout the area on Friday night, as dangerous conditions are likely to develop rapidly and without warning.   There will be a higher-probability forecast released this evening.

Heavy storms are also expected to impact western North Dakota on Thursday night.
