The National Weather Service of Bismarck has upgraded Thursday’s forecast to a higher level of risk. North Dakota faces a significant severe weather threat Thursday with a level 3 out of 5 risk for numerous dangerous storms. This is the same threat level as the June 20th storms. Expected hazards include tennis ball-sized hail, damaging winds up to 80 miles per hour, and a few tornadoes.

The NWS predicts that storms will begin in northwest areas early Thursday afternoon, then transition to a line of severe weather moving southeast with damaging winds as the primary threat. Parts of western and central North Dakota have been upgraded to the enhanced risk level.

Thursday will also bring hot, humid conditions with heat indices near 100 degrees in southern areas. Friday brings additional severe weather potential across eastern North Dakota, though Thursday poses the greater threat. Cooler, less humid weather arrives for the weekend.
