Tornado near Spiritwood, ND on Friday, June 20, 2025
More tornado information has come to light after a Public Information Statement was released Wednesday, August 6. The National Weather Service of Grand Forks has upgraded a June 20th tornado near the Barnes-Stutsman county line from EF-2 to EF-3 status after further analysis. The tornado packed winds of 155 miles per hour and carved a path 7.65 miles long and up to 800 yards wide from near Urbana to north of Spiritwood.
The storm caused significant damage to two homes about a mile apart but resulted in no fatalities or injuries. The tornado formed around 8:50 PM and dissipated by 9:20 PM.
Weather service investigators also discovered four additional tornado tracks from the same day using high-resolution satellite imagery – three along the Leonard to Kindred area and another near Sheldon. The upgraded rating was based on steel shed and tree damage at affected farmsteads.
