The USDA’s Crop Progress report shows mixed results for major crops. Corn development remains slightly ahead of schedule, with 88% of the crop in top states reaching the silking stage and 42% at the dough stage—both close to or above the five-year average.
Soybeans, meanwhile, are slightly behind average for blooming at 85%, but pod-setting is on pace at 58%. The overall crop condition is solid, with 69% rated good to excellent.
Winter wheat harvest is nearly complete at 86%, just 1% shy of the average. Spring wheat shows slower progress, with 95% headed (versus 98% average) and only 5% harvested so far—below the 9% five-year mark. Notably, the condition of spring wheat continues to decline, with only 48% rated good to excellent. Overall, while crop development is mostly on track, crop quality for some grains shows signs of pressure.
