Most of North Dakota faces air quality ratings in the unhealthy to very unhealthy range, prompting officials to urge residents to stay indoors when possible.
The AQI reached 177 in Fargo and 169 in Bismarck this morning, with smoke from Canadian wildfires blanketing the region between and north of the cities.
Jamestown’s AQI is forecast to approach 160 this afternoon and evening, before storms could push much of the smoke away.
Air quality forecasters expect air quality in North Dakota to be much healthier the rest of the week, with consistent rain and storms expected to keep AQI in the healthy to moderate ranges.
