The National Weather Service confirmed four tornadoes in Grand Forks County and 100 mile-per-hour winds in Jamestown during Friday morning’s severe storms.
The Grand Forks office of the NWS clocked four EF-1 tornadoes in the county, with the most severe being north of Grand Forks at 4:17 a.m. with wind speeds of up to 110 miles per hour.
The NWS office in Bismarck confirmed multiple straight line wind readings of 100 miles per hour in Jamestown in the southwest and southeast parts of the city between 2:30-3:30 a.m. on Friday. There were also several confirmed air-to-ground lightning strikes in and around the city.
Stutsman County dispatch also confirmed with KSJB Radio that tornadic activity was spotting in the north part of the county around 2:45 a.m, prompting a tornado warning in the area.
Damage from the storms in Jamestown is still being assessed and includes downed trees, power lines, and damage to roofs, homes, fencing, and structures. Residents of an apartment building on 14th Street Southeast are still displaced after a roof was ripped off the building.
Officials say assistance is being provided to those who are living there, and elsewhere affected by damage.
