As first reported by from the North Dakota Monitor, Thirty-nine North Dakotans have applied to fill open positions on the state Ethics Commission. Among the candidates is former commission chair Paul Richard, who served five years before stepping down and wants to complete the term of Dave Anderson, who died unexpectedly in May.
The applicant pool includes attorneys, former government employees, professors, and community organizers. One position would finish Anderson’s term through August 2026, while another four-year term begins September 1st to replace Ward Koeser.
Governor Armstrong and Senate leaders will meet Friday morning at the Capitol to review applications. The appointments come amid ongoing tensions between the governor and the Ethics Commission over the agency’s regulatory role. The commission was created by voters in 2018 to enforce ethics rules for elections, lobbying, and transparency.
