The severe thunderstorm threat for Wednesday and Thursday in southeastern North Dakota has been upgraded in the latest forecasts. Jamestown and Stutsman County are in the center of the most severe projections for both days.
The National Weather Service has upgraded today’s storm warning to a Level 1 Threat Advisory for southeastern North Dakota and northern Minnesota. Tornadoes are possible, as is quarter-sized hail and wind speeds greater than 60 miles per hour. The NWS says impacts of this system will start to be felt in central North Dakota mid-afternoon, with less severe weather expected west of Bismarck. (remove after 4pm).
Thursday’s forecast also took a turn for the worse. A Level 2 Threat Advisory has been issued for most of eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota for tomorrow’s storms. The NWS says this system could also bring tornadic activity, frequent air-to-ground lightning, ping-pong sized hail, and wind speeds over 70 miles per hour. This storm may last into the overnight hours. A less-severe storm advisory has been issued for the rest of North Dakota, Central Minnesota, and northern South Dakota on Thursday.
Residents and travelers in eastern North Dakota are reminded to be weather aware and know the best place to take shelter should a warning be issued. You should also have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts and charge phones and other batteries in case power is disrupted.
