The James River Senior Center has announced a new fundraising campaign for the new development in north Jamestown.
Construction is currently in progress at the old IDK Bar & Grill location on the 1000 block of 13th Street Northeast. The Senior Center is hoping to raise $2 million through the capital campaign.
Executive Director Maureen Wegenke said they’ve been fundraising for nearly a year.
“We actually started last November,” Wegenke said. “But, the actual (capital) campaign started in May.”
Improvements at the new location include upgrade disability assistance, exercise areas, an event space, and a dining room.
Wegenke says the James River Transit Office, which offers low-cost rides to residents in the Jamestown area, will also relocate their offices to the new location once complete. Construction is underway with completion expected early next year.
“They’ve given us a timeline of February 6,” Wegenke explained. “It could go after that, especially with this weather.”
Wegenke says those wanting to give to the capital campaign can visit the James River Senior Center Office at 419 5th St. NE, or by phone at (701) 252-2882.
