Strong thunderstorms pushed across eastern North Dakota into southwestern Minnesota on Thursday night into Friday morning.

High winds, rain, and lightning were the main effects of the storms in North Dakota.  Funnel clouds were reported in southwestern Minnesota near Marshall in the afternoon as the storm strengthened.

The National Weather Service office in Grand Forks tracked an extreme frontal system in the northeast portion of North Dakota around 9:00 p.m., issuing a ‘red’ alert for damaging wind and hail.

The storms continued into the morning hours in southern North Dakota, with extreme lightning reported near Ellendale and Edgeley, with a strong wind and rain front pushing past Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Storms could impact the area through the weekend, but they are likely to be less severe and scattered.  Temperatures will stay mild over the next few days with a low-pressure system dominating the area, with highs staying in the 70s through the weekend.
