As first reported by from the North Dakota Monitor, another AI data center is in the works in North Dakota. This facility will be located near Harwood, which is north of Fargo. Applied Digital announced Monday that the company will break ground in September for Polaris Forge 2, a 280-megawatt computing facility expected to employ over 200 full-time workers. 280 megawatts are roughly the same power supply consumed by up to 200,000 households in a year (based on averages, not a precise estimate).
The projects includes two facilities on a 900-acre campus, with room for expansion. Power is supplied through Cass County Electric Cooperative. Applied Digital said in a news release that it is expanding in North Dakota because the state has abundant energy, available land and a pro-business climate.
Applied Digital already operates a data center near Ellendale and has invested in local housing and infrastructure there. Governor Kelly Armstrong praised the company for being more than just an employer and strengthening communities through local partnerships and workforce development.
