Moorhead police have arrested a 17-year-old suspected in a June 19th drive-by shooting during a traffic stop early Tuesday morning, according to a press release. Officers pulled over a vehicle for an equipment violation on 32nd Avenue South and identified the teen passenger, who had an outstanding nationwide warrant for aiding and abetting use of a dangerous weapon.
Police found a loaded handgun during the stop, which will undergo forensic testing to determine if it was used in the shooting. The driver, 18-year-old Azarel Chappell Jr., was also arrested on unrelated gun charges.
Police are still searching for a second juvenile suspect and a white Chrysler 300 with Minnesota plates EJJ379 connected to the June shooting. The teen’s name cannot be released due to Minnesota privacy laws.
