The North Dakota Industrial Commission has chosen WBI Energy for the Bakken East Pipeline project, authorizing the state Pipeline Authority to begin contract negotiations. The decision marks a major financial commitment to expand natural gas access across North Dakota and support long-term oil production in the Bakken. The goal of this project is to shift eastern North Dakota’s dependency from Canadian natural gas.
WBI Energy says the commission’s decision “reinforces our dedication to enhancing the reliability and security of natural gas service in North Dakota and beyond.” The company believes it’s well-positioned to deliver reliable energy infrastructure for the state.
The project is funded under Senate Bill 2014, which allows up to $100 million per biennium for pipeline capacity purchases. The Industrial Commission includes Governor Armstrong, Attorney General Wrigley, and Agriculture Commissioner Goehring.
