In a shocking move to both teams’ fans, and the NFL, the Green Bay Packers sent shockwaves through the league, and NFC North by acquiring All Pro Linebacker and Pass Rusher Micah Parsons.
Green Bay and Dallas completed the trade after contract talks between Parsons and the Cowboys went sour, and Parsons requested to be traded. Green Bay swooped in and have added the pass rusher in an attempt to “open the window” for a potential Super Bowl run.
The trade details include the Packers sending defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first round draft picks in 2026 and 2027 in exchange for Parsons.
Green Bay would also have the chore of giving Parsons a contract extension, and giving a contract extension is exactly what they did. Parsons agreed to a 4-year $188 Million dollar extension with $136 Million being in total guarantees. With the extension Parsons became the highest paid Non-QB in the NFL, making $47 Million a year, besting the previous record by $6 Million dollars belonging to TJ Watt of Pittsburgh who signed for $41 Million a year this offseason.
Parsons joins a young and talented Green Bay defense that features the pass rusher who will be on Parsons other side, Rashan Gary, as well as All Pro Safety Xavier McKinney, and the Linebacker duo of Edgerrin Cooper and Quay Walker.
Parsons will get a chance to meet up with his old team this season in Week 4 when the Packers travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. Will Parsons get to show the Cowboys they made a huge mistake? Or will Dallas show that they never need him?
