North Dakota’s first-in-the-nation Native Tourism Alliance says their efforts to promote tribal tourism are paying off, especially with European visitors. Director Stacey LaCompte told lawmakers the group successfully caters to tour groups from countries like Norway and Germany, who often spend three weeks exploring all five tribal nations in North Dakota, according to from the North Dakota Monitor, who originally reported on this. The alliance, formed in 2016, offers a platform for authentic cultural experiences told by Native voices. European tourists spend significant money on hotels, food, souvenirs, and artisan goods while visiting reservations and sites like Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Other states have now followed North Dakota’s model, creating similar Native tourism partnerships across the region.
