The first September chill has arrived in North Dakota, and with it will come severe winds this afternoon and evening.

Thursday morning temperatures dropped to 34 in Cooperstown and Jamestown, the lowest reported in the state.   The rest of eastern North Dakota woke up to high-30s and low-40s.

While no freezes were reported, the National Weather Service says some frost may have accumulated in places overnight.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe wind advisory for western and central North Dakota today.  Those in Stutsman County and to the north and west can expect sustained winds around 35 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 60 miles per hour in some areas.

The advisory lasts until 9pm tonight, with the system expected to bring less severe winds to the east and south.

High profile vehicles and trucks are advised that driving may be dangerous during this time.
