North Dakota Confirms HPAI Case in State

By Ryan King Sep 5, 2025 | 8:01 AM

North Dakota’s Department of Agriculture has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial turkey flock in Dickey County, verified on August 30 by South Dakota State University’s diagnostic lab.

The site is under quarantine, and the flock has been depopulated to prevent the virus from spreading. Officials stress that none of the birds will enter the food supply. Within a 10-kilometre control zone, domestic bird owners are being contacted and monitored, while all poultry-related events in the county are suspended for at least 30 days.

Authorities emphasize that the risk to public health is very low, as human infections from HPAI are extremely rare.
