Another week has come and gone, and it’s already time to kick off Week 2 of high school football in the state of North Dakota! We had a couple upsets to start off in Week 1 including, #1 in AAA West Fargo-Sheyenne losing to Legacy, as well as Class A #1 Velva/Garrison/Drake-Anamoose falling in a low scoring game to Harvey Wells-County. What other surprises are we in store for this high school football season?
Lets take a look at some of the games I’m looking forward too this week!
Class AAA
#5 West Fargo-Sheyenne @ Minot
- Ohhh the drive from Fargo to Minot, always fun isn’t it? Both teams took losses in Week 1, and will enter Week 2 with a little bit of pressure on them. Both teams want to avoid going 0-2 on the loaded AAA season. West Fargo-Sheyenne is attempting to climb back in the rankings, while Minot is trying to get back in to the rankings after being handled by now new #1 Fargo Davies. Not saying either team’s hopes will be put to rest with a loss, but for either team who ends up losing, they may have to be perfect the rest of the season.
Class AA
#4 Grand Forks Central @ Jamestown
- Grand Forks Central began their season with a good win over #5 ranked St. Mary’s in week 1, and Jamestown took care of Wahpeton on the road. Grand Forks was rewarded with a spot in the top 5 after the upset, but this week, like St. Mary’s last week, a target will be on them. Grand Forks Central travels to unranked Jamestown on Friday night for the Blue Jay’s home opener. The winner of this game will have a spot in the Top 5 next week, but who will it be?
Class A
#5 Harvey/Wells County @ #1 Langdon Area/Munich
- After the loss of Velva/Garrison/Drake-Anamoose in Week 1, Langdon Area/ Munich is now your new number 1 team in Class A, and will have to take on the team who unseated Velva from the top spot last week. Can Langdon Area/ Munich handle the pressure of the #1 spot and stay there, or will Harvey/Wells County play spoiler again to a top team in the class and continue their climb in the Class A Poll?
9-man
#5 Grant County/Flasher @ Napoleon/ Gackle-Streeter
- Much like last week… there wasn’t much to choose from that I knew wouldn’t be a complete blowout by some of the top teams in the class. This matchup however intrigues me. Both teams enter the game at 2-0. Grant County/Flasher has been in a battle with Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood since last week trying to claim the #5 spot in the state, while Napoleon/Gackle Streeter is outside of the poll not even receiving votes. Can Grant County/ Flasher keep up the pace with Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood or can Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter get some eyes on them as they could move to 3-0? Its going to be another tough year to get into the Top 5 of 9-man so both teams are going to need a solid performance to keep their spots in the likes of New Rockford-Sheyenne/Maddock, Lamoure-LM, and Linton-HMB.
