Former ND Game and Fish Director Terry Steinwand Arrested on Child Sex Charge

The former director of the North Dakota Game and Fish Department has been arrested on a serious criminal charge. Terry Steinwand was booked into the Burleigh Morton Detention Center Friday afternoon by Mandan Police on a charge of alleged Gross Sexual Imposition involving sexual contact with a victim under 15, according to the center’s database. Steinwand served as Game and Fish director from 2006 until his retirement in 2021, appointed by three different governors: Hoeven, Dalrymple, and Burgum. No additional details about the arrest have been released. The charge carries significant legal consequences: a Class AA Felony with a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison, according to ND Century Code.
