An off-duty Devils Lake police officer was hospitalized Tuesday morning after a lengthy standoff at a home that began Monday night. Police responded to a 911 hang-up call in the 300 block of 15th Avenue Southeast around 11 PM, leading to an investigation and search warrant, according to a press release. When officers attempted to execute the warrant, the off-duty officer barricaded himself inside with a weapon. Devils Lake Police and the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office negotiated with the subject for over 9 hours before a weapon was discharged shortly after 9:30 AM Tuesday. From the press release, it is unclear who fired the weapon. The officer was transported to CHI St. Alexius for medical attention; his condition is unknown. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting an ongoing investigation.
