The USDA’s latest Crop Progress report shows the U.S. corn and soybean harvests are running just behind last year but remain in line with or slightly ahead of their five-year averages.
Corn is 85% dented and 41% mature, while harvest has reached 7%, equal to the five-year norm. Conditions slipped slightly, with 67% of corn rated good to excellent. Soybeans are 41% dropping leaves, with 5% harvested nationwide. Crop conditions also dipped, with 63% rated good to excellent, while Louisiana and Mississippi lead in early harvest progress.
Spring wheat harvest is nearly complete at 94%, ahead of both last year and the average, with Minnesota and South Dakota fully harvested. Winter wheat planting advanced to 11% nationwide, with Washington furthest along at 50%. Weather could be a mixed factor in the week ahead, as warm conditions speed crop maturity, but a slow-moving storm system will bring widespread showers.
