The Minnesota Vikings were wanting to get back on track after an ugly loss in Week 2 to the Atlanta Falcons at home, but entering the week some big questions needed to be answered.
Who was going to play for the Vikings with the amount of injuries they were dealing with, and can Carson Wentz harness the Vikings offense and start producing some points. Both questions were answered in dominating fashion, with the Vikings bouncing back and defeating the Joe Burrow-less Cincinnati Bengals 48-10.
Wentz made his debut for the Vikings after the ankle injury to starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy will keep him out for the next 2-4 Weeks. Wentz was a Viking fan growing up and wanted to make a good impression in his first time taking the field in a Vikings uniform. And that he did.
Wentz controlled the offense going 14/20 for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns, while rushing for just 4 yards. His pair of touchdowns went to the tight ends on the offense, one going to Josh Oliver, and the other going to TJ Hockenson.
The Vikings offense also had an easy day at work, due to the Vikings defense also making plays and scoring points too. Isaiah Rodgers would have himself a day, with an interception of Cincy backup quarterback Jake Browning that was returned for a touchdown, while ALSO taking back a fumble recovery for a touchdown a couple of series later. With those scores the Vikings added up to 5 total turnovers recovered against the Bengals.
Minnesota showed some life now that a veteran quarterback is behind center and the defense woke up and showed up for work, can the Vikings keep up the momentum as they begin their European tour for the next two weeks? The Vikes will travel to Ireland to take on a familiar foe in Aaron Rodgers and his new team the Pittsburgh Steelers next week and then head to London to take on the Cleveland Browns the week after that.
The Vikings and their fans could be asking some BIG questions in the coming weeks if Wentz manages to handle the role as the starter leading up to the week McCarthy is available to come back. Will the Vikings role with the momentum of Wentz, or give McCarthy another chance?
