The North Dakota Game and Fish Department says they have confirmed invasive zebra mussels in Smishek Lake in Burke County. The discovery means the popular 195-acre lake, just north of Powers Lake, is now classified as infested water.

Emergency rules take effect immediately — banning the movement of water, including for bait, away from the lake. Signs are posted at access sites, and officials say containment and treatment options are being reviewed.

Game and Fish urges everyone to clean, drain, and dry boats and gear to prevent zebra mussels from spreading to other waters.
