North Dakota’s lieutenant governor and Jamestown’s state representative returned this week from a weeklong visit to Israel — a trip the Israeli government funded.

The Monitor reports Lt. Gov. Michelle Strinden traveled with Sen. Jonathan Sickler of Grand Forks and Rep. Bernie Satrom of Jamestown as part of a multistate delegation.

The group visited communities affected by the Israel-Hamas war and met with Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Ethics Commission cleared such travel earlier this year, saying the itinerary qualified as educational and not lobbying.

Strinden told attendees North Dakota stands with Israel, citing a 2023 legislative resolution backing Israel’s right to self-defense.

Officials said the delegation included about 250 state lawmakers from all 50 states.
