A new CBS News and YouGov poll shows most Americans reject political violence but worry it’s becoming more likely.

Seventy-two percent of respondents said violence is never justified, while about one in five said it can sometimes be acceptable. Nearly three-quarters believe political tensions will grow worse in the coming years.

The poll — conducted September 24th through 27th — also found 61 percent of voters think divisions have deepened since 2020, and about half say they feel angry or frustrated about national politics heading into the 2026 election cycle.

In North Dakota, recent regional surveys show similar sentiment: most residents condemn political violence but express concern about polarization and declining trust in government.
