Jamestown city leaders have approved a long-term tax agreement with Cavendish Farms to support a major expansion project.

The deal lets Cavendish make set yearly payments instead of property taxes over 18 years. The company’s plan will reportedly bring in millions more than the city’s earlier proposal and help fund local schools and county services over the nearly two-decade plan, but likely less in the short term.

Councilman David Schloegel voted no, saying the city’s original terms were better for taxpayers.

Cavendish says they are investing roughly $150 million to expand its Jamestown plant and upgrade equipment. The expansion includes new fryer facilities and a larger processing building on Jamestown’s west side.
