Combine Driver Killed in Crash with Train Near Page; 20 Cars Derailed

One person is dead after a combine collided with a BNSF train this morning about five miles northwest of Page. The crash happened at10:59 a.m. Thursday when the combine traveling south on a gravel road struck the front of a westbound train, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The impact caused the lead locomotive to catch fire and approximately 20 train cars derailed, spilling cargo into nearby fields. The train’s engineer and conductor escaped safely before the fire and were not injured. However, the combine driver died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Authorities are asking motorists and residents to avoid the area while crews work to clear the scene and assess the damage. More information will be released as it becomes available.
