The NDHP has released an update on Thursday’s fatal train crash near Page. The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the victim as 33-year-old Herman Van Den Berg of Colgate. Van Den Berg died at the scene after his John Deere combine traveling south on 133rd Avenue Southeast collided with a westbound BNSF train at 10:59 a.m. The collision caused approximately twenty train cars to derail, sending cargo into fields along the railroad tracks. The train’s conductor and engineer were not injured. The Highway Patrol says 133rd Avenue Southeast will remain closed north and south of the tracks for 34-48 hours while crews work to clear the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and BNSF Police.
