An hours-long police standoff kept part of Aneta on lockdown Saturday before ending without injuries.

Deputies with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office say they were called around 9:54 a.m. Saturday to a disturbance at a home on Searns Avenue in Aneta.

When officers arrived, they learned a person had locked themselves inside a garage and was believed to be armed.

Authorities set up a safety perimeter and told nearby residents to shelter in place as negotiators worked to defuse the situation.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol and surrounding agencies assisted through the day.

After roughly five hours, deputies say the individual surrendered peacefully around 3:30 p.m. and was taken for a medical evaluation.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains active.
