Representative Julie Fedorchak repeatedly called the ongoing government shutdown “disappointing” during a virtual town hall Tuesday night, blaming Senate Democrats for the stalemate, according to first reporting by Isak Dinesen from WDAY. Fedorchak expressed frustration regarding this issue, noting Republicans need 60 votes to reopen the government. She called on Minnesota senators to “see the light and join in the side of opening the government.” Fedorchak criticized Democrats’ $1.5 trillion proposal, claiming it would rescind millions in rural hospital funding for North Dakota, though to reopen the government, Democrats want to remove cuts to Medicaid, passed by Republicans in the Big Beautiful Bill, that cut off Medicaid-funded revenue streams that are a “lifeline” to rural hospitals, potentially causing closures, despite compensatory funding in the Big Beautiful Bill that is largely considered insufficient. She also opposed President Trump’s plan to import beef from Argentina, saying she’s asked the president to “put his American-first philosophy to work for our beef producers.” The shutdown dominated the discussion in Fedorchak’s sixth constituent forum, now entering its third week with no resolution in sight.
