U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has announced plans to reopen USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices and release $3 billion in aid to support farmers affected by the ongoing government shutdown. Rollins said FSA offices will resume key operations such as farm loan processing and payment programs.
The decision follows growing pressure from farm organizations who urged the administration to provide relief amid low commodity prices, high input costs, and trade challenges. Rollins emphasized that these efforts will help producers continue business planning despite the government shutdown, which has left many federal agencies idle for weeks
Several Republican senators, also met with President Trump to discuss trade, farm aid, and beef imports. Lawmakers and cattle groups expressed concern over the administration’s consideration of increased beef imports to reduce U.S. prices, warning it could harm American ranchers. Senators also urged the president to instead focus on strengthening domestic production, enforcing country-of-origin labeling, and addressing market concentration in the beef industry.
