The U.S. Department of Agriculture unveiled a new plan aimed at strengthening the cattle industry and lowering beef prices.
The plan focuses on removing regulatory barriers, increasing meat processing capacity, and expanding grazing opportunities on federal lands. It also includes efforts to better compensate ranchers for livestock losses caused by predators and to support new ranchers through educational programs and grants.
Alongside these domestic measures, the USDA also plans to simplify processing regulations and encourage local meat production through expanded funding programs.
However, the announcement comes amid controversy over President Trump’s proposal to import beef from Argentina — an idea strongly opposed by U.S. cattle groups, who fear it could harm domestic producers. While the administration argues that increased imports could help lower prices, ranchers and farm leaders warn it may deepen financial struggles for American farmers.
