Class AAA and AA High School Playoffs Round 1 Matchups

By Ryan King Oct 27, 2025 | 10:26 AM

We had to wait an extra week, but now officially the WHOLE state of North Dakota will be in the playoffs, now that AAA and AA have concluded their regular season. Let’s take a look at some of the opening round matchups in the AAA and AA classifications, and see who the favorites are as well as the teams seeking to upset their higher ranked opponent.

-Class AAA Round 1-

 (E4) West Fargo-Sheyenne @ (W1) Bismarck Century

(W3) Bismarck Legacy @ (E2) West Fargo Horace

(W4) Mandan @ (E1) Fargo Davies

(E3) West Fargo @ (W2) Bismarck High

Bismarck Century and Fargo Davies will represent your top seeds in the tournament, followed by other teams who held the number one spot throughout the season including Horace, Legacy, and Sheyenne. One surprise in this bracket reveal was the absence of Fargo Shanley who was in the Top 5 numerous weeks, but would take a loss in the final week and was booted from Title contention. Joining the top teams are teams trying to set themselves up for some major upsets of the higher seeded opponent including, Sheyenne, Mandan, and West Fargo. In a class that was up and down all season long, who will come out on top in AAA? We will start piecing that puzzle together this coming Friday when the first round kicks off.

-Class AA Round 1-

(E4) Grand Forks Red River @ (W1) Minot North

(W3) Bismarck St. Mary’s @ (E2) Central Cass

(W4) Watford City @ (E1) Kindred

(E3) Grand Forks Central @ (W2) Devils Lake

As expected, your top seeds in the tournament are Minot North and Kindred who steamrolled through the regular season, and are ready to really make it count. Grand Forks Central who was in the conversation with those two teams for most of the season cooled down as the regular season began to finish out, and will have a big matchup in the first round with another team that slowed down a little towards the end in Devils Lake. Either team will be disappointed with a first round exit. Central Cass will be another team to watch out for as these playoffs begin. Central Cass hung around and took some close losses all throughout the season, can they catch fire and get some wins against these opponents when it really counts? Watford City and Bismarck St. Mary’s also managed to sneak into the bracket and will try for some upsets, but their opponents will need a couple unlucky bounces and mistakes in order to have a chance. Who will be the AA Champion? We begin that conversation this Friday night.
