The small town of Grandin in Cass County is in shock after an elderly woman was struck and killed by a train.
The 71-year-old woman died Friday afternoon after while walking through the small downtown area. The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the woman was walking near the center of Grandin when a northbound freight train hit her at a public rail crossing. The area is a main line through downtown Grandin, about 35 miles north of Fargo.
Authorities say weather and road conditions were good, and no vehicle was involved in the incident.
The Highway Patrol and the railway police continue to investigate.
