Authorities have confirmed today the death of a Tennessee police officer during a weekend hunting trip in Stutsman County.
The Knoxville Police Department in Tennessee say Lt. Gordon Gwathney, 57, drowned Sunday morning while on a hunting trip near Woodworth, northwest of Jamestown.
Local responders found Gwathney after a search in the rural area. The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office and rescue teams assisted at the scene.
Gwathney had served with Knoxville Police since 1997 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2010. His department released a statement calling his death an “incomprehensible loss” and asked for privacy for his family and fellow officers.
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department and state investigators are completing the investigation and will issue its report once details are finalized.
