Great Plains Food Bank Seeking Donations, Expecting Surge in Demand

By Seth Dunlap Oct 29, 2025 | 5:09 AM

The Great Plains Food Bank announced this week an emergency appeal for donations as food insecurity continues climbing statewide.

The group says requests for assistance have surged 30 percent since summer, stretching supplies at partner agencies, including local pantries in Jamestown and Valley City.

Officials at the GPFB say inflation and the end of pandemic-era aid have left many families struggling to afford groceries heading into winter, and the potential expiration of SNAP benefits has only compounded those problems.

The Great Plains Food Bank supplies food to more than 200 pantries and meal programs across North Dakota and Clay County, Minnesota.

Local donations can be made directly through the Great Plains Food Bank or through Community Action Region 6 in Jamestown.
