Minnesota Twins Hire New Manager

After letting go of previous manager Rocco Baldelli at the start of their offseason, the Minnesota Twins have finally tagged a new leader of the organization.

The team reached an agreement with former Pittsburgh Pirates Manager Derek Shelton.

Shelton managed the Pirates for 6 seasons, taking the job in 2020 and being let go after this season. Shelton also was the bench coach for the Twins during the 2018, 2019 seasons under Paul Molitor and Baldelli.

During his stint with the Pirates, Shelton amassed a 306-440 record, and never got a postseason win.

Shelton will take over a team that is arguably more talented than what he had in Pittsburgh, however, Shelton re-enters the Twins organization that has a bunch of question marks floating above Target Field.

Who will Shelton have to manage when the 2026 season begins? Will the Twins do another fire sale during the offseason to cut payroll more than they already have? Will the Twins go with the heavily rumored move of trading both star pitchers for the team Pablo Lopez and Joe Ryan? What is the future of Byron Buxton? All these question will need to be asked and answered during the offseason, and its now Shelton’s job to answer them.
