Federal food benefit payments have stopped.

The state’s Department of Health & Human Services says Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments ceased Nov. 1 after federal funding failed to reload.

About 56,000 North Dakotans receive approximately $10 million per month in SNAP benefits.

Governor Kelly Armstrong directed $1.5 million in state contingency funds to the Great Plains Food Bank, which supplies more than 200 pantries across the state.  State officials stress that school meal programs will continue unchanged despite the SNAP pause.

Residents in Jamestown and Stutsman County can find help through:
– Community Action Region VI, 1108 5th Avenue NE, phone 701-252-1821.
– The Salvation Army Jamestown, 320 1st Avenue N, phone 701-252-0290.

The Great Plains Food Bank lists dozens of other partner pantries across the region for those needing help. Go to GreatPlainsFoodBank.org for more information.
